The same technology that enabled Italian police track down the whereabouts of one of the suspects in the recent London bombings is being used by increasing numbers of parents as a way to check the location of their children.
Mobile phone technology offered by ChildLocate, the leading mobile location provider in the UK, allows parents instantly and unobtrusively to pinpoint the whereabouts of their children, using co-ordinates generated by the actual signal that enables a mobile to ‘lock on’ to a network operator’s phone mast. The system uses co-ordinates from several masts to ‘triangulate’ the position of a user’s mobile phone - exactly the same technique that police in Rome used to locate and arrest terrorist suspect Osman Hussain.

The ChildLocate service has just been updated, and now boasts vastly improved precision, with Vodafone users enjoying the ability to locate mobile phones to an accuracy of between 300 and 500 metres. ChildLocate can also determine the child’s last position even if their phone is switched off depending on the mobile network used. The service can be used for mobile phones using the Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and O2 networks.

ChildLocate is a passive service that enables parents to check on their child’s whereabouts, without having to rely on their children using or answering the phone. While the phone is switched on, the parent can receive up to date location information, either on a map on their PC or via text message on their mobile phone.

The service now features an easy to use interface, including high definition, full color street level maps provided by Multimap, Europe's leading online mapping provider.

The company has also invested heavily in its customer support infrastructure, implementing a new call centre that features a team of dedicated customer support representatives providing phone, email and chat support. A raft of new hardware hosts the ChildLocate database, including two new dedicated servers that offer superior stability.

ChildLocate is currently running a special offer that includes 30 days Free Trial, together with ten free location requests. Users can register up to 5 mobile handsets to the service, which is available thereafter for just £1.34 per week for a family pack of five registered mobiles.
